Hong Kong-based antenatal classes, birth preparation, and postpartum care
Whether this is your first or third pregnancy, taking antenatal and birth preparation classes for proper education is essential for all parents-to-be. Our classes provide an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with other couples with similar due dates. Creating this extra support network will help you get through the first few weeks, or month, post-labour — with some of our parents still meeting up regularly years after!
Our experienced midwives are also available for postnatal home visits and classes to save your worries, and unnecessary hospital visits.
All of our antenatal classes are given by the Annerley Midwives.
All you need to know about labour, birth, complications, postnatal, and baby care in four individual sessions.
Unable to commit to evening sessions? Our Express class offers more flexibility in a compact format.
For women only, this one-off class supports antenatal education in preparation for labour.
Second baby on the way? Brush up on your antenatal education in this one-on-one class.
A hands-on workshop to navigate the systems and protocols when giving birth in a public hospital.

}', 4='{type=string, value=Sue has nearly 20 years’ experience as a full-time midwife in the UK and in HK. She has worked almost everywhere a modern midwife can – in labour ward, postnatal ward, at antenatal clinics, alongside birth centre, within community, and at a stand-alone birthing centre. In the latter, she was the midwife-in-charge on shift for a period of over 3 years, requiring her to be not only the primary caregiver, but also a key decision-maker in situations critical to her clients’ safety and journey through childbirth.
Sue is a highly focused and knowledgeable midwife, who at all times provides a high standard of midwifery care. Her positive, empathetic attitude allows her to reach mums from all walks of life, offering much-needed encouragement and reassurance to them and their families. Her broad knowledge base enables her to care for both low and high-risk women throughout their pregnancy, intrapartum, and postpartum experiences.
Sue has cared for literally thousands of clients over her career, helping them along their path to becoming new parents. She has two grown-up children of her own, and a baby grandson. She can therefore appreciate both your position as a mother, as well as that of your parents!
Sue holds Hong Kong and UK Midwifery Registration and has previously held the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) and Neonatal Life Support qualifications. She worked at the Matilda Hospital before becoming one of the Annerley Midwives in 2015, where she has since worked closely with clients using both public and private healthcare systems in HK.
Sue enjoys teaching traditional Antenatal and Natal Hypnotherapy classes, and Birth Breathing workshops. She is constantly exploring new courses and approaches that she can offer to parents.
Beyond her experience and qualifications, Sue has always maintained strong advocacy for prospective mothers, new mums, and their families. In the past, she petitioned the UK Government to criminalize the act of stopping a woman from breastfeeding in public. For insight and a fresh perspective, she visited Ina May Gaskin’s ‘farm’ in Tennessee USA as part of an elective placement, the funding for which she won via the prestigious Iolanthe Midwifery Trust Award.
In her spare time, Sue enjoys going to the gym and hiking around HK, taking newborn baby photos, sewing and knitting, and digging her allotment!

She has helped to bring 1000’s of babies into the world, as well as having two of her own along the way. She draws on her professional and personal life experience to help parents from the early weeks of pregnancy, throughout the birth process and beyond into parenthood.
Michelle is approaching her 10th year working as a midwife in Hong Kong and has developed a wealth of experience across care provision in both the public and private sector. She started her career in the UK, working in Europe’s largest NICU, where she provided vital intensive and special care to premature babies and helped parents through extremely stressful situations. She has worked at numerous hospitals in the UK gaining invaluable knowledge and skills in labour and delivery, antenatal and postnatal wards, baby units and community care. In Hong Kong, she worked at The Matilda International hospital before moving into clinical midwifery practice.
Michelle particularly enjoys the continuity and close relationship she gets to develop with families throughout their pregnancy. Her most rewarding moments include sharing parents the first glimpse of their tiny baby on the ultrasound and listening to the heartbeat, helping babies who are struggling to breastfeed, and seeing them grow up as she bumps into them whilst out and about in Hong Kong. Her ultimate aim is to provide the personal support network people so often need, easing anxiety and promoting a joyful experience.
